Reading & Writing Clinics

The Reading & Writing Clinics focus on helping students who are struggling in some area of reading, writing, or language arts (spelling, vocabulary).  Prior to the clinic each student will participate in a diagnostic evaluation (included in clinic fees) conducted by Dr. Rozendal.  (Formal Report of the evaluation is available for an additional fee.) This evaluation along with information from parents and the student's school will be used to craft a specific intervention program for the student.  The student to teacher ratio for the Reading Clinic will not be more than 4 students per 1 teacher, with the students grouped according to age and literacy needs.

Reading Clinics will be on Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday; 8:45 am - 10:15 am and 10:30 am - 12:00 noon at both locations.*

Private Education Interventions (including educational therapy)

Summer private education interventions (specialized tutoring or educational therapy) will be contracted on an hourly rate.  A minimum of 2 sessions per week is recommended. Educational Therapy is one-on-one intervention with Dr. Rozendal.  Specialized tutoring may have 1 or 2 students to one intervention specialist, but students are paired who have similar learning goals, and are similar in age.   Learning goals will be determined based upon consultation with parents, the student, and the school.

Summer Private Educational Interventions will be scheduled on an individual basis and are available Monday through Friday.

To Register for Private Education Interventions contact the Institute.

High School Credit Recovery

  • Alternative to school-based programs for students who need more intensive instruction to master the course content.
  • Requires prior arrangement with the high school to receive credit (EnCourage will facilitate).  Credits are handled at the local high school as "transfer credit".
  • Blended instruction uses Michigan standards-based high school online curriculum in small group setting.  Allows students to work at their own pace with intensive teacher support.
  • Ideal for students who have learning difficulties and have not been successful in other credit recovery programs.
  • 3 hours/week of work with teacher required, with additional homework time also required (computer and internet connection needed)
  • Maximum of 2 classes may be taken.
